Rat Anti-Mouse Interleukin-5 (IL-5) ELISA Set

BACKGROUND
Interleukin 5 (IL-5), also known as eosinophil colony stimulating factor, is a 22kD highly glycosylated protein that homodimerizes to form a functional signaling molecule. This cytokine is primarily produced by activated T cells, but is also secreted by mast cells and eosinophils[1]. IL-5 has been shown to stimulate the growth, differentiation and granule release of eosinophils, thereby promoting accelerated eosinophil production during inflammation and infection[2,3]. Moreover, IL-5 is believed to promote the growth and differentiation of activated B cells into Ig-secreting cells[4,5]. IL-5 has been linked to several chronic inflammatory states including asthma and allergic rhinitis[6].
